Alberto J. Gavilanes Aguirre, MD

Dr. Gavilanes is an internist and geriatrician, board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He provides primary care medicine, with a focus on geriatric medicine. By providing compassionate and diligent care, he is dedicated to his goal of keeping his patients healthy and independent.

Dr. Gavilanes completed his Internal medicine residency at Seton Hall-Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Trinitas Regional Medical Center and then continued to complete his fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx.

Originally from Ecuador, Dr. Gavilanes is fluent in English and Spanish. During his free time, he enjoys traveling abroad and spending time with his family.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I am deeply passionate about making a difference in my patients’ healthcare, treatment and management. I am also board-certified in Geriatrics. During my training in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, I became determined to provide the best possible care.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
My patients can expect compassion, dedication and professionalism. I always strive to make sure that their concerns are resolved and with utmost compassion and kindness. I expect mutual respect and professionalism.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I spend my personal time with family and friends and travel whenever I can. I also attend conferences and seminars to keep my knowledge updated in my specialty.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose Primary care because I feel the specialty enables me to build a strong physician-patient relationship over time. The greatest reward is seeing my patients healthy, happy and active, and when they tell me what a difference I make in their lives, that is just priceless.
