Amy Sherwood, CNM

With more than 20 years of experience caring for women and gender-diverse individual’s reproductive health needs, Amy Sherwood, CNM, brings deep expertise and a genuine passion for relationship-centered care. Her path began as a registered nurse on a labor and delivery unit, where she spent years supporting people through one of life's most profound experiences. In 2018, she became a certified nurse midwife, and as an advanced practice clinician, expanded her scope to care for women from adolescence through menopause.

She provides prenatal and postpartum care, family planning, well-woman gynecologic exams, reproductive education, and evidence-based management of gynecologic conditions including menstrual disorders, infections, and sexually transmitted infections. Her practice integrates conventional and complementary treatment approaches, grounded in a holistic philosophy that addresses the physical, emotional, and social dimensions of health.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
My approach to care is holistic and integrative, drawing on both conventional medicine and evidence-informed complementary strategies to support the whole person.

I am committed to providing care that is inclusive, culturally competent, and trauma-informed, ensuring that every person who walks through the door feels safe, respected, and heard.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
I take pride in being a good listener who takes time to truly understand each person’s needs, and I have natural ability to put people at ease — even during appointments that can feel vulnerable or nerve-wracking.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
Work-life balance for me involves abundant time outdoors. I recharge myself from this intense work by hiking and biking through the amazing Shawangunk Mountains or sitting quietly and reading. Spending time with my husband and daughter traveling and experiencing new places is my top priority.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose this work because I believe every person deserves a safe place to receive care that is free of judgment and allows for shared decision making. I recognize the history of disparity women and minorities encounter in the health care system, and I work hard to do my part to change the course.
