Eva R. Zimmerman, MD

Dr. Eva Zimmerman is a passionate and outgoing internist. She graduated from Union College as a Biology/Sociology double major. She completed medical school at the Jacobs School of Medicine in her hometown of Buffalo, NY. She graduated at the top of her medical school class and always knew she wanted to pursue a career in primary care. She completed her residency at the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine program, where she was chosen as the recipient of the Rosenbaum Primary Care Recognition Award.

Dr. Zimmerman is particularly interested in preventative medicine, and comprehensive chronic disease management. She is looking forward to forming longstanding relationships with her patients and helping her patients work towards their health goals. She is tremendously excited to join the Internal Medicine Associates of Westport.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I want to be the “quarterback” on your care team to help you manifest optimal health outcomes. I am thorough and detail-oriented. I have wanted to pursue primary care all of my life, and now that I finally get that privilege, I will do all that I can to help you live your best and healthiest life.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Engagement! I will be the fully integrated, leader of your care team. I will regularly talk to your other specialists, and will also want to regularly talk with you. When we work towards a health goal, we will be doing this together. I strive to meet the patients where they are in terms of understanding and perspectives, so we can work together to meet health goals!

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I like to spend time with my parents and sister; family time is the best time! I love to travel, take long walks, and hop on my Peloton bike for exercise. I love the beach and anything involving the sunshine. I also love miniature dachshunds and cannot wait to have a puppy of my own someday!

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I get a lot of inspiration from my father, who has been an incredible primary care doctor for over 35 years in my hometown of Buffalo, NY. I love the longitudinal relationships that are developed in primary care and the way that you, as the primary care provider, can make such a profound difference as the advocate for your patients, because you know them best. The greatest reward is getting to develop these amazing relationships with patients over time, and being there to support them through both their deepest challenges and their outstanding successes.
