About Alexandra Hirt

Professional Statement

Alexandra Hirt is board-certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) with a special interest in GI Oncology. She worked in cardiovascular research before completing her Master's in Public Health/Physician Assistant dual degree program in Philadelphia. She started her career in NYC in 2021 and is excited to continue helping patients who need surgical oncology services in her home state of Connecticut. She hopes to utilize her MPH degree to help identify and overcome barriers in care for her patients in a surgical setting.

Get To Know Me

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
My training has allowed me to see beyond a patient's diagnosis and see the other obstacles they may be facing in their care. I strive to go above and beyond not only the primary diagnosis but the whole person.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Oftentimes, patients are coming to us after a life-altering diagnosis or surgery. I hope to educate them so they are empowered in their own healthcare decision-making and help to simplify a traditionally complicated healthcare system. I expect our patients to ask as many questions as possible until they have a full understanding of their diagnosis.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I enjoy traveling and exploring new places and cultures. Locally I enjoy waterskiing and playing tennis in the summers, and snow skiing in the winters with family and friends.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I believe the greatest reward in surgical oncology is having the privilege of developing long-term relationships with my patients and seeing many of them thrive for years after a cancer diagnosis.
