Amanda Ocran, MD

Dr. Ocran is a Board-certified Pediatrician and Specialist in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. As a Neonatologist, she is an expert in the care of infants with medical needs of various complexities. Dr. Ocran is particularly interested in the long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes of premature and medically complex infants. In her work, she takes great care in optimizing factors that help improve the outcomes of her patients. She also enjoys the advancement of medical education, especially through simulation. She has been described by families as "very relatable" and "approachable", and by colleagues as having a "calm friendliness" about her which makes working with her quite enjoyable. In her free time, she enjoys cooking delicious meals for her family, reading, and traveling around the world with her family.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Families should expect honesty and open communication when interacting with me. I expect patients and families to partner with me in their care by maintaining a two-way communication system.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
When I am not caring for patients I am either spending time with my family, trying new cooking recipes, or hopping on a flight somewhere to create new memories with family.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I believe children are one of life's greatest gifts. I chose my specialty because it is all about working with a very vulnerable population through what often feels to families like a period of helplessness. Greatest reward for me is seeing families happy or at peace.
