Amara Shafi, MD was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Her pursuit in medicine is based on the ideology of patient-centered care. Dr. Shafi completed medical school with Ross University School of Medicine in 2020 and went on to complete Internal Medicine Residency with SUNY Downstate-Primary Care track in 2023. Her focus as a primary care physician is preventative medicine. Some of her interests include ultrasound and joint injections. Dr. Shafi's hobbies include hiking, cooking and spending her downtime with family.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health
My goal for any of those who become my patients is to build a healthcare plan centered around their concerns and up-to-date medical guidelines.
What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
The expectation between myself as the provider and my patients would be as someone who can be available and willing to work together to assess any health issues.
How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I spend my time with my family and go for walks/hikes through hiking trails.
Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
Primary care, to me, is centered around bringing focus and attention to the patient and being the provider orchestrating the care. I believe being given that ability is the greatest reward.

Before meeting with Dr. Shafi I was concerned about my health issue. But she was very thorough, caring and sensitive to my needs. Her treatment seems to have worked.

Dr. Shafi is excellent, thorough, and very empathetic. She takes time to connect with me and explain my medical treatment in a manner that I’m able to understand. For a young doctor, she somehow exudes traditional manners that are reminiscent of the great family doctors of the past. I’m very pleased with my treatment from Dr. Shafi.

I’m so grateful to have Dr. Shafi as my doctor. She is incredibly kind, empathetic, and truly listens every time I’m in her office. I always feel heard, supported, and never rushed.
