Dr. Amber Mitchell is a neurologist and an epileptologist and is board certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. She is also board certified in epilepsy. Dr. Mitchell provides specialized neurological care to adolescents and adults age 16 and older with seizure disorders and other conditions such as migraine, movement disorders, stroke and memory impairment. She has a strong interest in the diagnosis and management of patients with seizures.
Dr. Mitchell is the founder and director of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Dr. Mitchell completed the highly competitive accelerated seven-year combined medical degree biomedical research program through Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical College, graduating summa cum laude.
Dr. Mitchell is originally from the Hudson Valley and feels fortunate to serve her community. In her spare time, she plays the piano. She is fluent in French and enjoys traveling and seeing the world.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
Taking care of seizure disorders is rewarding because more than 65 percent of the patients can be effectively managed with medication. I enjoy helping patients live their best life.

Dr. Mitchell provided excellent care in the hospital and follow up care. She spent time explaining and answering all questions and concerns. She replies promptly with a telephone call with any concerns at once home. We feel blessed to have been put in contact with her.

I’ve been under the care of Dr. Mitchell for a few. Dr. Mitchell always makes me feel confident she is the best doctor I could be seeing. She never rushes me, always answers my questions, and makes me feel like our decisions are together. She is very knowledgeable about my condition. Aside from her professionalism, her personality is lovely and caring.
