Barla Bishop, CNM

Barla Bishop, CNM is originally from New Jersey, where she was born and raised. Barla graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island. After working in New York for several years, she earned her Master’s in Midwifery from SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY. Her dedication to caring for women spans all ages, from youth to elder, with a special commitment to supporting patients through labor and delivery. She now resides in Litchfield County, Connecticut, and is happily married with three wonderful children.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I strive to be approachable so that patients feel at ease and can speak openly with me.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
I’m a great listener and value patient input. While I hope my recommendations are considered, I am open to reasonable recommendations from my patient. We can always come to a consensus on how to manage their care together.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends and I’m a huge foodie so I’m always looking for the next best restaurant to try.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
This is a specialty I knew I wanted to do since high school. I never pivoted I had my mind on the prize. This is not like work to me since I enjoy and am passionate about women healthcare, the greatest reward is being there for the birth of my patient's; the joy that I see in their faces is priceless.
