Brian Monahan, MD

Dr. Brian Monahan is a board-certified surgeon. He graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and stayed on to complete his medical degree at Georgetown University with the prestigious Sweeney Scholars Program. He completed his General Surgical Residency training at the busy Temple University Health System, where he also trained at Fox Chase Cancer Institute. He then completed Fellowship Training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at MedStar Health/Georgetown University. During Fellowship, he trained specifically in Minimally Invasive Colon & Rectal Surgery, taking additional courses on Robotic Surgical techniques. He is a lifelong native of the Northeast, growing up in North Jersey and vacationing yearly on Cape Cod.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
I aspire to have an open, honest, patient-centered relationship with my patients. I like to use the most up-to-date evidence when providing treatment recommendations with the understanding that every individual is unique, and accordingly, requires a tailored treatment plan.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
I enjoy traveling, running, and spending time with my family.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I get to help people of all ages and take care of a variety of medical and surgical conditions.
