Catherine Murray Igel, MD

Catherine Igel MD, FACOG, is a Maternal Fetal Medicine Physician. Dr Igel specializes in the care of women with high-risk pregnancies. Dr. Igel’s clinical focus is on fetal medicine and obstetric ultrasound; specifically- fetal growth restriction, birth defects, prenatal genetics, multifetal gestation and associated complications, preterm birth prevention, as well as recurrent pregnancy loss. Her maternal interests include pregnancy induced hypertensive disorders, diabetes, and autoimmune syndromes in pregnancy.

Dr Igel graduated from UC Berkeley, completing her BS with a focus on Microbial Biology. Subsequently, she completed a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. She earned her MD at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and continued at Montefiore-Einstein, completing her residency in obstetrics and gynecology and fellowship in maternal fetal medicine. Following her clinical interests, Dr. Igel’s research focuses on fetal growth restriction, stillbirth, and recurrent pregnancy loss. Her research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals as well as presentations at National and International Conferences. Dr. Igel is passionate about bringing cutting edge and evidence-based medicine as well as patient-centered supportive care to her patients.

My patients can expect a compassionate and knowledgeable partner in their health who listens to and addresses their concerns. They can expect a doctor who explains medicine in an understandable and respectful way.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
Exercising/ circuit training, animals, cooking/food and trying new restaurants, exploring

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I am passionate about taking care of pregnant women and their babies. My greatest reward is helping my patients navigate through challenging pregnancies, forming close and lasting relationships and seeing them with their newborns.
