Charles X. Ma, MD

Charles Ma, MD is a board-certified Internist who specializes in Endocrinology. Having completed his fellowship training in Bronx, NY, he understands the complexities of both medical conditions and social determinants of health especially in underserved populations. He treats his patients with respect and as individuals, working together with them as a team to determine the best management approach. As a CT native, Dr. Ma enjoys spending time with family, going on hikes and traveling abroad in his spare time.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
Having worked in Hartford, Springfield, and the Bronx, I am well aware of the social factors affecting health, health outcomes, and general well-being. As such, I always treat my patients following the best standards of care but also as individuals. I believe every person is unique and therefore of important value. I look forward to learning as much about my patients as I can from them.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
The most important expectation of my professional relationship with my patients is to work as a team. I genuinely have the best interest of my patients at heart and I believe much can be achieved by working towards the same goals together! I expect my patients to keep an open mind to different approaches to management and to be always comfortable in raising any questions.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I enjoy traveling the world, exploring different cultures, going on road trips and participating in outdoor adventures such as hiking. I also like listening to and playing music as well as attempting new recipes/cuisines in the kitchen.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose Endocrinology because it is a specialty that focuses on prevention and long-term outcomes. For me, a holistic approach that takes into account the long-term health of an individual is much more important than short-term solutions. I enjoy seeing my patients nice and healthy, working with them to adopt healthy lifestyles and to prevent future major health issues later on.
