Dr. Chika Winifred Meme is a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellow, where she provides advanced care for patients with complex respiratory and critical illness. She earned her medical degree from the University of Port Harcourt in Nigeria and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Prior to fellowship, she served as a hospitalist at Presbyterian Health in Albuquerque, NM.

Passionate about medical education and patient advocacy, she is committed to improving outcomes for critically ill patients while fostering collaborative, evidence-based care.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I want my patients to know they’re never just a diagnosis to me. I listen, I care, and I walk with them through every step of their health journey. My goal is to combine medical expertise with compassion, so my patients feel supported, understood, and confident in my care.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
I want my patients to feel that they can trust me — that I’ll listen, explain things clearly, and be right there with them, especially in difficult moments.

In return, I hope for openness and honesty. The more they share their story, their worries, and their goals, the better I can care for them.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
Outside of medicine, I ground myself in time with friends and family. They’re my anchor, and those moments — whether it’s sharing a meal, laughing over old stories, or simply being together — remind me of what truly matters.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose internal medicine for its depth and continuity; the greatest reward is building lasting patient relationships while solving complex, evolving medical challenges.
