Gabi Barmettler, MD is committed to personalizing cancer care to each patient's unique needs and goals as a surgeon. Dr. Barmettler hopes to understand you as a person and understand how your life experiences color your outlook and perspective when it comes to breast cancer and breast surgical care. As a surgeon and an artist, she is committed to oncologic and aesthetic outcomes by utilizing oncoplastic and hidden scar techniques. Dr. Barmettler is trained in breast surgical oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Dana Farber Cancer Institute- Brigham. She is interested in health equity and advocacy, with an academic and research focus on breast cancer in LGBTQIA+ patients to improve their outcomes. All patients are welcome in Dr. Barmettler's inclusive practice.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I am a compassionate and empathetic surgeon who is focused on listening to my patients to best understand their goals and priorities in making complex decisions regarding breast cancer and breast surgical care.
What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Patients should be able to understand their diagnosis and the different options for their treatment. I expect patients to ask questions so that they can be informed and empowered to make medical and surgical choices that align with their treatment goals. I want to listen to you and get to know you so that we can make decisions together.
How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I enjoy spending time with my family. We enjoy the outdoors, hiking, kayaking and being together. I am an artist and enjoy painting and sculpture.
Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
As a medical student, I encountered a patient who was not able to seek care for her breast cancer for multiple years because of financial insecurity. My life course was changed after meeting her and realizing the inequity she and her family faced. My goal is to improve breast cancer care and advocate for people to access oncologic treatment.

Dr. Barmettler was fabulous, she explained everything in Laymans terms and made me feel completely ease. She explained everything that would be done in my procedure. She also made sure all appointments were set up before I left and again explained everything and made my husband, and I feel completely at ease.
