Gisela Buan, CRNA

Gisela is a board-certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Quinnipiac University. As a highly skilled clinician, Gisela provides a wide range of anesthesia services to patients of all ages, ensuring safe and effective care in various surgical and procedural settings. Currently serving as the Chief CRNA at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Gisela leads a dedicated team of anesthesia professionals, delivering exceptional patient care and fostering a collaborative environment. Returning to Danbury Hospital, where her journey began as an ICU nurse, Gisela also contributes on a per diem basis, bringing expertise full circle to a place of significant professional growth.

The most important thing my patients should expect from their professional relationship with me is trust and personalized care. They can count on me to prioritize their safety, advocate for their needs, and deliver evidence-based anesthesia services tailored to their unique health conditions. Open communication, compassion, and respect will always be at the center of my approach. 

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
When not caring for patients, I enjoy staying active through exercise and cherishing time at home with my family and two dogs. This balance helps me recharge and stay connected to what matters most. 

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose the specialty of anesthesia because it combines critical thinking, technical precision, and the opportunity to make a profound impact on patients’ lives during some of their most vulnerable moments. My background in critical care nursing inspired a deeper passion for ensuring patients’ safety and comfort, which naturally aligned with becoming a CRNA. The greatest reward lies in knowing you are instrumental in providing comfort and saving lives.
