About Gymar M. Vargas

Professional Statement

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. I completed my undergraduate studies in Connecticut before returning to Puerto Rico for medical school. My journey then brought me to Rochester, New York, where I completed my residency in Emergency Medicine and my fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound. I’m passionate about point-of-care ultrasound and its role in improving patient care.

Get To Know Me

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I treat every patient like I would want my own family to be treated. I approach medicine with empathy, dedication, and a commitment to doing what’s right for the individual in front of me. My goal is to make sure they feel heard, understood, and cared for, while providing the highest quality of medical care I can.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Trust, transparency, and compassion. Patients should feel confident that I’ll advocate for them, keep them informed, and take the time to explain things. I encourage my patients to share their concerns, questions, and even fears. I also hope they feel comfortable enough to be active participants in their care.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
I love exploring nature, hiking with my dog, and spending quality time with family.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose my specialty because it allows me to make a real difference in moments that truly matter. I was drawn to the fast-paced, dynamic environment, but more than that, I was inspired by the chance to be there for people when they’re at their most vulnerable. The greatest reward is helping someone through a difficult or even life-threatening situation and knowing that your presence and decisions made a difference.
