Jason Chiu, MD

Jason Chiu, MD completed his general surgery residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, NY. He went on to complete a fellowship in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Chiu has authored several publications, holds board certifications from the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Preventive Medicine.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I am a surgeon with a background in preventive medicine. I shaped my practice with an emphasis on wellness because I wanted to practice healthcare, not sick care. I believe prevention is the best medicine and provides the most cost effective, coherent care for patients. I enjoy creating a sense of community with patients and empowering them to make choices that result in optimal health.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Patients should expect transparency at every encounter so that they can make the best decision regarding personal health. I expect patients and family members to communicate their questions, concerns, and fears before, during, and after their surgical care.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
Most of my time outside the hospital is spent with the wife and kids doing dad things or fixing things around the house.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I love the immediacy of surgery and the great innovative minds in our field. It’s truly a privilege to work with motivated people with a shared goal of delivering excellence and value to patients and their families.
