Jennifer Ahn Mulligan, MD

Jennifer Mulligan, MD, is a board-certified obesity medicine specialist. She obtained her Bachelor of Science at Emory University and Doctor of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. She then trained at the University of Chicago (Northshore) and is board certified in family medicine. During her residency at the University of Chicago, Dr. Mulligan discovered her passion for treating obesity as a chronic disease and pursued a fellowship in obesity medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. After completing her training in obesity medicine, she joined the faculty at the Massachusetts General Hospital Metabolic Clinic where she specialized in medical treatment of obesity in adult and pediatric patients. Dr. Mulligan has also contributed to peer-reviewed publications within the field of obesity medicine and presented at multiple international obesity medicine conferences, such as the Boston Course of Obesity Medicine and the Harvard Blackburn Course of Obesity Medicine, in which she also was the co-director of attendee engagement in 2025, on various topics in obesity medicine. Dr. Mulligan is passionate about treating obesity as a chronic disease in adult and pediatric populations and enjoys spending time with her family in her free time.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I provide compassionate care for those struggling with obesity and firmly believe that obesity should be seen and treated as the chronic disease that it is.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
My patients can expect to work with me as a team to improve their long-term health. In turn, I expect my patients to treat everybody, including myself and all staff members, at the metabolic clinic with respect and kindness.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends!

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose to specialize in obesity medicine because it is an exciting field that is still developing! There is still so much to learn about obesity as a disease and how to best treat this. Treating obesity can help to improve so many aspects of patients’ lives and I find it incredibly gratifying to see how patients become healthier and more confident in their lives by treating this one chronic disease.
