Joanna Fabris, MD

Dr Fabris was born and raised in Canada. After completing her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, she worked for 1 year as a Workplace Wellness Consultant. She then pursued medical school at St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies. From there she moved to Brooklyn, New York for clinical rotations, and eventually to Stamford, Connecticut to complete her 3 years of Family Medicine Residency at Stamford Hospital. After graduation, Dr Fabris spent 3 years practicing full-spectrum outpatient family medicine in an under-served farming community in Mendota, California. There she learned some Spanish and found her passion for women's health and preventive care. Afterward, she returned to Connecticut to settle closer to family. Dr Fabris understands that the clinic and healthcare setting can be intimidating and she strives to make the office a comfortable, welcoming and nonjudgmental space for everyone. She works hard to advocate for her patients and helps them navigate the complex healthcare system. Her goal is to work with patients to prevent disease, help them manage their chronic conditions and live a happier and healthier life.

I am hard-working, caring, understanding, thorough and positive. I enjoy my work and strive to empower my patients.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Patients can expect to feel cared for, to be heard, and to understand their healthcare. I expect my patients to be involved, be open and honest, ask questions and care about their health.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I enjoy spending time with loved ones, playing soccer, being active, traveling to new places, experiencing new cultures and eating delicious food!

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose family medicine (primary care) because it allows lifelong relationships with patients and their families throughout every stage of life. The greatest reward is preventing illness and seeing patients achieve their health goals.
