J. Keith Joseph, MD

Dr. Joseph is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Adult Infectious Diseases. He enjoys learning about patients so that he can gain perspective to guide each person’s care based on their circumstances. He enjoys treating both acute and chronic health conditions but enjoys focusing on prevention. Dr. Joseph is the Diana and Stephen Goldberg Endowed Chair in Primary Care at Sharon Hospital.

He believes in continuously striving to improve communication with patients so they can best understand health issues and how best to prevent or improve upon them. He enjoys nature, gardening, sports of all kinds, cooking and travel.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I see caring for patients as a privilege and a service, and will always try and engage patients to participate in all decisions about their health.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Patients should expect to be educated about health issues. Since health does not happen in the office, I think everyone must understand how best to maximize their health while they are busy with their daily living.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I love exercising, especially in the outdoors, planting trees, flowers and vegetables, astronomy, learning about history and science, and cooking. I also enjoy finding ways to volunteer to help others who have been less fortunate than me.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
Getting to know people who one cares for is a distinct privilege. Having a window into other people’s lives and helping them engage in healthcare reminds me, daily, of the many remarkable and wonderful people that are in the world. It feel fortunate to have a job that requires constantly learning new information and allows for helping people better exist in the world.
