Joseph J. Fiorito, MD

Dr. Fiorito is board-certified in internal medicine and Gastroenterology. He graduated from Columbia University College and completed a residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC and his Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY.   Dr. Fiorito was named a 2023 Top Doc by Castle Connolly.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I have a 35-year career and experience practicing medicine with my overriding focus of always putting my patients first. My career encompasses teaching students, interns, residents and fellows performing clinical research to find better solutions for our patient’s needs, and building the division of Gastroenterology at Danbury Hospital. All to provide state-of-the-art medicine with compassion and care to our patients and community.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
My patients should expect my complete and undivided attention to their problems and needs, and an unconditional commitment to resolve their issues. I believe the patient-physician relationship is a sacred bond dedicated to the health and well-being of my patients.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I am an avid runner and rarely miss a day of exercise, however, most of my time is spent with my three beautiful grandchildren.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
The practice of Gastroenterology allows me to build a long-term relationship with my patients who may have chronic and recurrent problems and guide them through the ups and downs of a chronic illness. Gastroenterology also allows me to utilize my technical skills with an endoscopy which is also very rewarding, such as removing large polyps and preventing colon cancer. Furthermore, I find the teaching and research opportunities in Gastroenterology very interesting and rewarding. I am blessed with a diverse and rewarding career.
