Karen M. Mulvihill, APRN

Dr. Karen Mulvihill has a doctor in nursing practice and is an advanced practice nurse, board-certified as a family nurse practitioner and in advanced hospice and palliative nursing. She believes that the patient and family come first and believes in access to palliative care services for all who suffer with serious illness. Her areas of expertise include palliative care, pain and symptom management and advance care planning. Dr. Mulvihill prides herself in patient-centered care plans based on what matters most to the patient and family. In her free time, Dr. Mulvihill works on a local, state and national level to allow access to palliative care services across the continuum of care. She enjoys spending time with her family, relaxing on the beach and skiing.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Patients and families should expect me to walk with them through their journey throughout the continuum of care. I expect them to trust me.

How do you spend your personal time when you're not caring for patients?
I enjoy spending time with my family, skiing and spending time at the beach.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose advanced practice nursing and palliative care as my specialty because I feel all patients and families deserve comfort and peace throughout their journey.
