Kathleen Barakat, MD

Dr. Barakat is dedicated to building strong relationships with her patients and providing patient-centered care that addresses both physical and mental health. She completed a primary care training program and values the importance of shared decision-making and regular preventative care in improving her patient's health outcomes. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and cooking different cuisines from around the world.

My focus is to work with my patients to make the best decisions that align with their individual health goals.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
The ideal patient/doctor relationship is centered around trust and open communication. I hope that my patients will feel that I am dedicated to their health goals and will in turn provide me with their trust, honesty and mutual respect.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
When I am not caring for patients, I enjoy learning to cook new recipes, travelling around the world, and spending time with my family.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
During my training, I spent many hours in the hospital setting seeing patients who had varying levels of education regarding their health. It always saddened me to meet a patient who did not have a good understanding of their health conditions, and often that is what led them to being hospitalized. Primary care doctors are essential in ensuring that patients understand their health condition, and with greater understanding and education, we can work together to prevent many hospitalizations. I enjoy and look forward to building long-lasting relationships with my patients.
