Kathryn S. Guernsey, CNM

Katie Guernsey is passionate about her work as a Midwife and greatly enjoys getting to know women and their families. She practices full-scope care including things such as routine Gyn health, issues with menstruation, contraception, mood and emotional health as they relate to hormones and life circumstances, peri-menopause and menopausal symptoms, prenatal care, birth, postpartum care and the day-to-day concerns that arise for women about their health.

Before working as a Midwife, she was a social worker specializing in equine-assisted therapies, and before that taught High School Chemistry and English. She holds a Master’s Degree in Midwifery from Jefferson University, a Master of Social Work from the University of Central Florida, and a BA from Williams College. She has lived in the Hudson Valley for 10 years and has 3 children. Her inspiration to become a midwife comes from her mother who was a Midwife, and Katie also had the good fortune of being cared for by the Midwives at The Farm, in Tennessee, for the birth of her first child.

I value getting to know people as an integral part of their care.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
I will take the time to listen to all questions and concerns, learn about the circumstances in their lives that impact health, and provide prompt follow-up and excellent communication, especially with ongoing issues.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I spend most of my time with my family. We do a lot of outdoor activities and adventures. I have 3 children, and many nieces and nephews! We have cats, a small flock of chickens, and care for several horses.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I enjoy working with women and getting to know their families. The greatest reward is the relationships that develop and last through the years.
