About Kayla Angelo
Professional Statement
Kayla Angelo is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who graduated from Columbia University School of Nursing’s DNP program. She spent the first two years of her career working in primary care/internal medicine, focusing on adults aged 18 and older, and is now joining the wound care team to further her specialty knowledge. She places emphasis on building relationships with patients during visits and strives to treat the individual rather than the disease.
Get To Know Me
Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I am extremely thorough in my patient assessments. My background as an internist will be invaluable to the wound care team as I am trained to assess the person as a whole and work closely with interdisciplinary teams. I am a strong patient advocate and make it a priority to build meaningful relationships with my patients.
What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Patients should expect an open and honest professional relationship. It is important that I have a strong relationship with my patients, with transparency and respect as cornerstones. I hope for the same in return from my patients.
How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I enjoy using any of my free time with my friends and family—whether it be going to restaurants, traveling, playing games, or just hanging out. I also enjoy going to concerts, reading thrillers, and watching reality TV.
Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
My clinical NP experience thus far has been in internal medicine, but I have chosen to pursue wound care as a specialty. I was drawn to wound care early on in my education as a nurse practitioner. During my undergraduate time, I worked with numerous paraplegic/quadriplegic individuals as a personal care assistant, where prevention and management of wounds was critical for day-to-day functioning. Now that I have gained some experience as an internist, I am looking forward to applying that knowledge in the context of wound care. The greatest reward is enabling individuals to be at their fullest potential.
