Lawrence P. DeBellis, DO

Lawrence (Larry) DeBellis is an endocrinologist board-certified in internal and obesity medicine. A NY native and former medical student at Sharon Hospital, he completed his residency at NCH Healthcare, serving an additional year as Chief Resident. He recently completed his fellowship at MUSC, where he was Chief Fellow. He provides personalized, patient-centered endocrine care with a personal focus on education, diabetes management, and cancer endocrinopathies.

Patients should choose me because they want a doctor who will treat them like a person, not a number. I take time to listen, explain, and work collaboratively with my  patients, ensuring they feel informed and empowered in their health journey. My approach is personalized, thorough, and built on a foundation of trust, education, and mutual respect.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
My patients can expect honesty, dedication, responsiveness, and a genuine investment in their well-being. I strive to make every patient feel heard and never rushed. In return, I ask that they stay engaged in their care, ask questions, and remain open in our communication—because the best outcomes come from a true partnership.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
Outside of medicine, I love traveling with my wife, trying new restaurants, hiking new trails, attending sporting events and making our annual trip to Walt Disney World. I’m passionate about cooking, keeping up with culinary trends, and always having a strong coffee or espresso nearby. These hobbies keep me grounded and energized—both in and out of the clinic.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
Endocrinology drew me in because of its complexity and the way it rewards critical thinking—especially when diagnosing hormone-related conditions that often present like medical puzzles. The greatest reward is helping patients reclaim their health and quality of life through personalized care plans. When we get it right, it truly changes lives.
