Lydia Akite-Washington, FNP

Lydia Akite-Washington is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who sees patients of all ages. Her passion for nursing stems from a desire to make a difference every day. As a provider, she is given many opportunities to improve patients’ lives through their life journeys and challenges with health and illness. Lydia's background includes more than 10 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in acute and critical care. Her determination for lifelong learning and commitment to high-quality care for patients led her to seek the role of provider to better manage the care of the patients entrusted to her. As a Nurse Practitioner, she is trained to diagnose and manage various chronic and acute health conditions. Lydia was educated here in the Hudson Valley, attending SUNY Orange, SUNY Delhi, and Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh.

I value each patient entrusted to my care. I take time to get to know them and meet them where they are. I’m dedicated to improving lives and being a part of their health journey. I’m passionate about my work, experienced, compassionate, and dedicated to providing excellent care for each individual.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
My patients should expect to be respected, and in return, I hope for mutual respect as well as trust that I have their best interests at heart.

How do you spend your valuable time when you’re not caring for patients?
I love to spend time with my family. My children and husband have been my greatest support while working in the healthcare field, and they are my source of rejuvenation. I love cooking and traveling. I enjoy the outdoors, hiking, and just appreciating the beauty around us.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
My background in critical care has led me to take care of patients often in their worst health status. As a hospitalist in acute care, I get to be a part of their continuum. I am happy to see my patients improve and get better and support them in their health journey. I am also privileged to support patients and families at the end of life.
