About Mark S. Carrasco

Professional Statement

Mark Carrasco, MD, is a double board-certified family medicine and sports medicine physician. He practices family medicine with a special focus on non-operative orthopedics, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and exercise-based preventive care. He is passionate about blending primary care with lifestyle medicine to optimize patient health, performance, and well-being.

Dr. Carrasco completed his Sports and Exercise Medicine Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he served as Chief Fellow. He previously completed his family medicine residency, where he was also elected Chief Resident.

Dr. Carrasco has worked with athletes across the Olympic, professional, collegiate, and high school levels, providing sideline and clinical coverage in a variety of settings. He remains very active in medical education.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Carrasco has been involved in global outreach efforts, including leading a humanitarian project in Nepal focused on musculoskeletal ultrasound education. He remains active in national organizations such as the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) and the American Academy of Family Physicians. His academic work includes numerous peer-reviewed publications and national conference presentations.

Dr. Carrasco is committed to promoting wellness, advancing healthcare for underserved populations, and mentoring the next generation of physicians.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
I enjoy staying active, connecting with loved ones, building meaningful relationships in the community, and unwinding with a good game of catch with my dog.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose family and sports medicine to build lasting relationships. The greatest reward is helping people heal, grow, and thrive over time.
