Michael L. Fitzpatrick, MD

Michael Fitzpatrick is a neurologist with a subspecialty interest in epilepsy. He graduated from the Texas Tech University HSC School of Medicine in 2017 and completed his residency and fellowship training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in 2022. His goal is to refine his skills as a clinician-educator – every patient is a student eager to learn about their health and their condition.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I excel in thoroughness, responsiveness to patient concerns, patient education and giving the best comprehensive neurologic care. I do not rush patients and attempt to set a calm environment conducive to having all patient concerns adequately addressed.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Patients can expect to feel heard, to have access to comprehensive diagnostic workups for neurologic diseases, and to have adequate participation in shared clinical decision-making. In exchange, I ask that patients be open to learning about their conditions (both from myself and from other resources) so that they can take an active role in their healthcare.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I am a lifelong student and can often be found reading articles and books on a variety of non-medical topics; my favorite areas include geometry, physics and mythology. I am also interested in fantasy fiction and world-building.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?

I chose neurology primarily for the content of its books and journals; while we aim to be engaged in our clinical work and satisfied with the outcomes, at the end of the day a physician that does not read, will not improve. Simply put, neurology fascinates me. I find its greatest reward to be the satisfaction of making a challenging or uncommon diagnosis.
