About Michael Llewellyn Ormont

Professional Statement

I am a board-certified general surgeon with nearly three decades of experience. I attended college in New York and moved to Pennsylvania for medical school and residency. I practiced general surgery in Maryland and New Hampshire. My career focus moved to wound care in 2020, laying the groundwork for a return to New York to join Vassar Brothers Medical Center director of Wound Care Services in 2023. I have extensive experience with all types of wounds, including arterial wounds, venous wounds, surgical wounds and traumatic wounds. My focus is on patient education, helping people learn the best way to encourage wound healing, prevent recurrence and improve their quality of life. I continue to operate, performing debridement, wound coverage and wound closure procedures.

Get To Know Me

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
Care of chronic and nonhealing wounds is a highly specialized practice, requiring a multidisciplinary approach. Your health care team includes your primary doctor or practitioner and your specialists, often those who practice infectious disease or diabetic care. I collaborate with your physicians and practitioners to improve your overall health and create the optimal conditions for wound healing. As a general surgeon, I have the experience necessary to identify wounds that require surgical intervention to achieve closure.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
As many wounds are a manifestation of chronic illness, you and I will have a long-term relationship while we work together toward a common goal, wound closure. I want you to feel completely comfortable with your care, asking questions to aid in your understanding of your condition and how you can best recover and avoid the recurrence of your wound in the future.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose Surgery as a career to improve the quality of life of the patients under my care. My transition to wound care has allowed me to have long-lasting relationships with people, allowing me to get to know them well and have a positive impact on their lives. Seeing people learn to manage their chronic conditions and reduce the burden of their illnesses to live more fulfilling lives is highly gratifying.
