About Mohir H. Hedeshian

Professional Statement

Dr. Hedeshian is a Thoracic Surgeon, board-certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He has a particular interest in thoracic oncology which includes cancers of the lungs, esophagus, mediastinum, pleura, and chest wall. Dr. Hedeshian performs thoracic surgical procedures using both traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He has expertise in the Intuitive da Vinci Xi Robotic system that makes surgeries more precise and minimizes pain and postoperative recovery time while optimizing oncologic and functional outcomes.

Though the medical issues of lung cancer patients are often complex, Dr. Hedeshian explores avenues of treatment best befitting the unique needs of each patient, whether that be through surgery, a combination of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and surgery, or through less invasive modalities such as stereotactic radiotherapy for patients who are otherwise non-surgical candidates.

Dr. Hedeshian completed his internship and surgical residency at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. He then completed his Thoracic Surgery Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. Dr. Hedeshian received his MD from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York.

Get To Know Me

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
As a thoracic surgeon, my dedication to precision, extensive training, and commitment to patient well-being set me apart. I prioritize personalized care, staying informed on the latest advancements, and ensuring a thorough understanding of each patient's unique situation for the best possible outcomes. But most importantly, I ensure that patients fully understand and are comfortable with the complexities of their health issues and the surgical procedure. Thoracic surgery is done routinely and effectively in every hospital. It doesn't have to be a terrifying process. I see it as my job to ease the fears and concerns of the patients and their families.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Patients should expect trust and unwavering dedication to their well-being. They should also expect clear communication and a commitment to informed decision-making. I, in turn, expect active participation in their healthcare, adherence to treatment plans, and open communication about concerns and issues related to their health. It is a collaborative effort for the best possible outcomes.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
When not caring for patients, I spend most of my time with my family. The education and well-being of my children are my top priority. I am also an avid cyclist and a professional classical piano player.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I fell in love with the surgical specialty early on in my career as a medical student. As a professional pianist, I loved working with my hands. Later on in residency, the complexity of thoracic surgery and the opportunity to make a significant impact on patient's lives were the two things that attracted me the most. The greatest reward often lies in successfully treating and curing a patient with lung cancer.

Excellent listener during our first consultation. Had reviewed both my history and the particular issue at hand. Was prepared to and did explain his plan with pros, cons and options. Spoke with me at the hospital before releasing me. His team was organized and connected with me, in particular [ ]. [ ] contacted me by phone the day before the surgery to review any issues which, in this case, was critical as the time the hospital called for me to arrive at [ ] was well after the time Dr Hedeshian had me scheduled for surgery. [ ] immediately resolved the issue. She also made sure we connected in person just before I went into surgery which was appreciated. Dr Hedeshian, with Heather (nurse) spoke and went over any issues at Duracell. Heather was professional and detailed and alerted Dr Hedeshian to issues which he handled immediately. Overall - highly recommend.

He took the time that was needed to explain my condition and options. After surgery he explained what was done again. The Follow-up surgery office visit was detailed also. I would recommend Dr Hedeshian.

One of the best surgeons I’ve ever had. Good personal experience, and always explaining procedures and follow up. Would rate him as a 10 or higher.
