Nancy J. Rennert, MD

Dr. Nancy Rennert is system chief of diabetes, chief of endocrinology and associate clinical professor at Yale and The University of Vermont. She has extensive experience in clinical endocrinology with special interest in diabetes and advanced technologies, as well as thyroid disorders including thyroid nodules and cancer. Additionally, Dr. Rennert mentors residents and medical students in quality improvement and clinical research. Her leadership of the multi-hospital glycemic care team, which aligns clinical care with quality improvement, has been recognized nationally. Dr. Rennert has a longstanding, deep commitment to care for the underserved and marginalized. Her clinical practice is at the Norwalk Community Health Center (FQHC), where she teaches future doctors.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
I strive to treat patients with dignity and respect. In turn, I hope patients will feel comfortable being honest with me, which promotes personalized care.

How do you spend your personal time when you're not caring for patients?
I enjoy time with my family, swimming and I love to cook. I’m currently trying to perfect soups and creative vegetarian meals. I welcome new recipes!

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
Growing up, I experienced the challenges of diabetes faced by my parents and relatives. My goal is to help patients choose state-of-the-art treatment that works for them.
