Neal M. Patel, MD

Dr. Patel is a gastroenterologist, board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Patel believes strong communication and collaboration in healthcare decisions are the foundations of building a strong physician-patient relationship. Dr. Patel practices general gastroenterology with specific interests in the management of inflammatory bowel disease as well as acute and chronic liver disease. He is dedicated to performing comprehensive care for all his patients and developing long-lasting relationships. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family members, traveling internationally and is an avid golfer.

Patients should choose me to be their provider because they can expect someone who is looking to establish a trusting relationship with them. Spending the time to listen to their concerns, communicating clearly, and personalizing treatment plans based on patient’s needs and expectations.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Patients should expect someone who is going to look at them as a whole individual and not just the disease. As above, they can expect someone who will listen and communicate effectively. I encourage patients to ask questions and be involved in the decision-making process when it comes to their healthcare. I want to be able to empower patients to be their biggest advocates.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, playing golf and watching sports, including professional football, baseball and basketball.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?

I chose GI for several reasons. One, it is a vast field with a wide spectrum of diseases. I enjoy the challenge of being able to diagnose and manage GI conditions. The ability to perform invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures was also a reason I chose my profession. That instant reward of being able to diagnose and treat conditions endoscopically is gratifying for both patients and me. The greatest reward is the positive feedback patients give to show their appreciation for their care.
