Get To Know Me
Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I am a very caring and compassionate surgeon who will always act in my patients' best interests. I will always communicate effectively with my patients with the understanding that surgery is a major decision in their lives.
What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
I will always communicate effectively, answer all questions, and provide guidance and surgical care to give you the best outcome possible. I understand surgery is a big decision in a person's life, and I will do everything I can to make my patients feel comfortable and secure in that decision. From my patients, I mostly need them to understand the "tool" concept of weight-loss surgery. Surgery is a tool to help people lose weight, therefore much of the success is how a person uses that tool. Nutrition, exercise and a positive outlook are still essential to the process.
How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I love reading, running, kickboxing and listening to music in my free time. I try to spend as much time as I can with my wife, daughter and cat, Izzy.
Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
From my own experience I understand losing weight is extremely challenging. Studies have shown patients with excessive weight have much poorer health outcomes, putting them at increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers and stroke. Many of my patients come to me with knee and back pain, prohibiting them from effectively exercising. Anything I can do to help a person lose weight, or improve their long-term health and current quality of life, gives me great joy. My greatest reward is seeing my patients in follow-up, months to years after their surgery, and seeing how happy they are with their decision to have surgery and how it helped them lose weight.
