Samantha C. Mannese, FNP

Samantha Mannese is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner. She received her nursing education, both bachelor's and master's degrees, from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. As a registered nurse, she spent most of her career working on an inpatient oncology unit, which sparked her passion for working with the hematology/oncology patient population long term. After graduating with her nurse practitioner degree in 2018, she accepted a position working in the outpatient hematology/oncology setting. She travels to both the Poughkeepsie (Dyson Center) and Rhinebeck locations weekly to see patients in both offices. Her job is her passion, and she loves coming to work every day. She looks forward to getting to know patients and providing them with heartfelt, quality care.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I believe that a patient should choose me to care for their health because I truly care about their overall wellbeing; both physically and emotionally. I want to spend the time to get to know my patients on a personal level, hear their stories, and understand what is most important to them when it comes to their care and treatment.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
My patients should expect that I will give them my best at every visit. I will practice active listening, I will give them space to talk about their issues, and I will provide a safe environment to discuss concerns and needs. I want my patients to know that I will always be available to them even after or in-between visits and that their wellbeing is my top priority. In return, I expect my patients and their family members to be open and honest with me so that we can have a mutually respectful relationship.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
When I am not at work caring for my patients, I am spending time at home with my husband and three beautiful children along with our two dogs. We enjoy spending quiet weekends outdoors together or with our larger extended family. I also enjoy reading fiction novels, doing jigsaw puzzles, and attempting crossword puzzles!

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose to specialize in oncology because of how rewarding this field is. The patients we treat are true superheroes, and I have learned so much strength and resilience from them. I love to see how a community can come together to care for an individual and family struggling through a difficult diagnosis.
