Sarah R. Iwata, MD

Dr. Sarah R. Iwata is a board-certified anesthesiologist dedicated to delivering safe, evidence-based care to patients undergoing surgical and procedural interventions. Dr. Iwata earned her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2016 and went on to complete residency training in Anesthesiology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, finishing in 2021. In 2022, she achieved board certification through the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Someone should choose me for their health because of my dedication to patient safety and attention to the patient experience from the start of the surgical encounter to a safe discharge home.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
The most important thing my patients should expect from me is my attention to detail for patient safety as well as patient satisfaction. I expect my patients to ask any questions that would help improve their preoperative experience.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you are not caring for patients?
When I am not caring for patients, I enjoy reading library books and spending time with my family.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose my specialty for its great mix of hands-on medicine and intellectual stimulation. The most rewarding aspect is providing reassurance to patients during what is often one of the most anxiety-inducing periods of their lives—preparing for and undergoing surgery.
