Shea Gerstenmaier, APRN

Shea Gerstenmaier is a board-certified advanced practice registered nurse (APRN). She obtained her board certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Shea earned her master's degree in nursing from Western Connecticut State University. Before this, Shea practiced as a Registered Nurse for 6 years with the Pulmonary and Sleep Department. In addition, Shea worked for 1 year at St. Vincents Medical Center as a float nurse throughout the hospital. Shea's APRN training included pulmonary medicine, infectious disease, and primary care. Shea prides herself on being compassionate and diligent when it comes to patient care. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cheering on her children at sporting events, running, hiking and being outdoors.

I value collaboration between patient and practitioner to achieve the best outcomes for the patient.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
I understand every patient is unique and I will listen to the concerns of my patients and tailor my care to meet their needs and capabilities. I expect my patients to be open and be an active part of their care for the best outcomes.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I enjoy spending my time with my family and friends and doing anything outdoors.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose pulmonary because I enjoy working with patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. What is most rewarding are the long-standing relationships developed between patients and providers.
