Sunday Awaka FNP is certified by the University of the State of New York, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the state of New York. Sunday brings along a fourteen-year experience of taking care of post-surgical patients who underwent various types of cardio-thoracic surgeries while he was working as a Registered Nurse in the same service. He applies a holistic approach to the care of his patients. He loves to play tennis competitively and watches basketball in his free time.
Get To Know Me
Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I have twenty-one years of experience caring for patients at various stages and situations of their health conditions as a Registered Nurse and have cared for surgical and non-surgical patients. I have pursued and completed my education as an Advanced Practice Nurse, and have worked directly with some of the best world-class surgeons in cardio-thoracic surgeries taking care of very sick and complicated Post-operative patients.
What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
Respect, honesty, dedication and evidence-based practice are some of the things all my patients should expect from our professional relationship. In return, I will expect cooperation and a desire to get better from them. I will work to earn their trust.
How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
Playing basketball with my kids or playing tennis competitively with my friends are some of the ways I spend my time when I am not caring for patients.
Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I've always wanted to know more about the heart as it is the "engine house" how it works, what can go wrong, how it can be protected/fixed, and so on. My greatest reward is seeing my patients turn around to be stable after cardiothoracic surgery. Going back to their house after discharge makes me feel accomplished.
