Wendy Jessica Hawkins, MD

Dr. Hawkins is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.  She has spent 35 years going back and forth between Texas and the eastern United States. She attended college at the University of Texas at Austin, medical school at Johns Hopkins, an internship at Vanderbilt, completed her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai in NYC and for the past 20 years has practiced in Houston, Texas. Dr. Hawkins enjoyed meeting and caring for all the residents of these places but is particularly excited to be back in the more temperate Hudson Valley and looks forward to delivering high-quality comprehensive primary care to her adult patients.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
I value my patients as individuals and will do everything in my power to help them achieve their healthcare goals. I can be particularly helpful to those dealing with diabetes as I have had extensive experience managing this condition.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
I want to partner with my patients to help them achieve optimal health. I will use my knowledge and experience to advise them and I expect them to be engaged in their health care decisions.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I like to stay in shape by doing yard work, functional training, running and hiking. I enjoy attending cultural and sporting events in the region with family and friends and traveling to new places.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose internal medicine/primary care because it provided the best way to get to know my patients. I began to focus on diabetes because I noted these patients needed more help and having a knowledgeable advocate can make a real difference.
