Emily Schwarz, PA

Emily Schwarz is a board-certified physician assistant (PA) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. In addition to being a PA, Emily also holds an additional credential as a registered dietitian (RD) certified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, with her previous career as the lead registered dietitian at an eating disorder treatment facility.

The unique blend of these two credentials has allowed Emily to hold the skills necessary to provide comprehensive and patient-centered care in gastroenterology. She is skilled in how nutrition aids in disease prevention, rehabilitation and management of chronic disease. She is also equipped to identify nutrition risk and how this can also aid in disease prevention.

Why should someone choose you to care for their health?
As a physician assistant (PA) and a registered dietitian (RD), I have additional lens on how nutrition and wellness can both prevent and treat many of the conditions that my patients will have.

What is the most important thing your patients should expect from their professional relationship with you? What do you expect from them?
My goal is to have an honest relationship between myself and my patients-- meaning that both myself and my patients feel comfortable with being direct about our expectations, goals, and feedback throughout our professional relationship together.

How do you spend your valuable personal time when you’re not caring for patients?
I am an avid runner in my spare time. I also love to cook both with and for my friends and family.

Why did you choose your specialty and what is its greatest reward?
I chose gastroenterology as a physician assistant (PA) because of how this specialty builds upon my previous career as a registered dietitian (RD). This empowers me to treat my patients in a well-rounded approach.
